Hodegon Branch History

The Ruins of the Hodegon monastery, Constantinople.

Photo taken by Egfroth

In October 2000, on his way to attend the Hastings 2000 re-enactment in England, Egfroth visited Constantinople. His mission: to find and photograph the original Hodegon Monastery.

This photo gives proof of success: It is now part of a military complex and Egfroth risked being imprisoned taking a photo of it.

Hodegon Milestones

Who would have thought that we would ever make the milestone of 10 years old. And that we still have 4 of the founding members in the club.

Over Ten years we have seen 39 people be club members of Hodegon. (see the role of Honour)

Hodegon's first public display was at the Dandenong Show in the first half Bacchus Marsh - 1999

Hodegon has attended 4 medieval conferences at which our club members have won awards and done us proud for their fine recreations.

But it has be the fun memorable actions we have undertaken, that has shone out

This conference saw us do:
Egfroth declared himself Emperor, and made the Grand Entrance at the Friday night Feast. As well as presenting a Gift to Snorri, his Brother Emperor of the West, (it was Craig Sitch in mediaeval undies)

Egfroth mostly distinguished himself by being assassinated twice, the first time while his bodyguards were distracted trying to treacherously increase their pay from one beer each to one slab (24 cans) of beer each -; the 2nd time by his own bodyguards because he refused to pay them for letting him get assassinated the first time.

Since then, Egfroth has let power go to his head completely, using the Imperial Plural, referring to himself as Our Clemency, and generally poncing it up.

The 1st re-enactment of the Good Friday Holy Icon Blind fold March

A blindfold procession, guided by the Holy ikon of the Theotokos Ton Hodegon, as was done by the monks of the original Hodegon monastery - The 1999 procession - past all the campsites, across the field of combat between the opposing armies, and into a tree.

And the running of the famous Backstabbers Guild of Australia Insult competition. In which the Judges of which Egfroth was one of - awarded one of them selves, Glenda Robinson the 1st place prize – such corruption.

South Bowraville - 2001

This conference saw us do:
The 2nd re-enactment of the Good Friday Holy Icon Blind fold March

Our Good Friday Imperial Court feast for the two Emperors and our later capture of Emperor Snorrie in our encampment bell line

Emperor
The Imperial Family

The Sapper squad, strike for better working conditions – in the first battle Hodegon brought out the shovels and began a tunnel to get under the fort wall. But In the second battle, we went on strike after 5 minutes' digging because the fort's defenders were not union members, and it was declared "black" until further notice. And Gary received a splinter from his shovel and had to go out on workers comp.

We did in the end win the battle when the defenders left its safety to go on the attack regarded it as a victory. We also just missed the video photographer

And The Witch Trial of Jenny - who was burnt by the Routiers at the Tavern.

Movie Stars

Our club members have been in several movies

Noah's Arc – 1999

This saw Jenny and Simon be extras as medieval villagers going to see the Noah's Arc play in a church, but unfortunately this scene was edited out of the final cut of the movie. But Jenny looked spectacular in a $9,000 Wig which went down all the way to her knees.

Run RinceWind Run

2007 – this saw Gary and Karl run up and down a forest after the wizard Rincewind – Gary managed to score one of the few speaking parts and utter the line "That's Him !" which Sven has now give Gary as his viking name.

Troll Bridge - 2008

And most of Hodegon are going to be apart of Sven's Army in Troll Bridge due to be filmed in late 2008.
